Creating Innovation and Taking on the Challenge of a New Stage
Yamada Denki will Continue to Address the Challenge of Further Innovation.
A Message from the PresidentYamada Denki marked its 40th anniversary this year. This is the result of the warm-hearted support of customers and other various stakeholders. I extend my deepest appreciation.Forty years ago, when I started business at my home and store no bigger than eight-tsubo (around 26.4 square meters) dealing with electric goods, I never dreamt of being the top home appliance retailer in Japan and achieving a turnover of more than 2 trillion yen. I just wanted to earn a living for my family. However, since I started business, I have worked sincerely, faithfully, and honestly. Gradually, my style of business has gained the understanding of an increasing number of customers, and as a result, Yamada Denki has grown to be such a large company. I am truly grateful to you all.Yamada Denki was able to achieve great success as a leading company just because we have taken on challenges and have created new types of business and innovative systems with the aim of flexibly adjusting ourselves to changes in the times and responding to customers’ requests. We set up one of the major pillars of our management philosophy, “Creation and Challenges,” in our second year of business, when we started to hire employees. We decided on this management philosophy because we wanted all staff members to work at Yamada Denki with hope and in the right frame of mind.At the same time, this is our corporate principle. For example, until the 1990s, it was a customary practice in the home appliance industry to use each manufacturer’s infrastructure for distributing goods. Yamada Denki was the first home appliance retailer to create its own distribution system. Possessing an original distribution system is quite normal now, but at that time, no other retailers had thought of such idea. We considered it indispensable to expand business and construct a national chain. It was the same when we first opened a large suburban store specialized in personal computers in the early 1990s. Until then, it was considered that personal computers would not sell well at home appliance retailers, but I was confident that personal computers would prevail to be used on a daily basis, and I thought that when it really happens, home appliance retailers must deal with them. The basis of our challenges in new types of business is nothing other than our philosophy, “Creation and Challenges.” Our challenging spirit has never changed and underlies our present efforts for a smart-house business and SNS business. We believe that expanding such types of business is indispensable for the future of mass home appliance retailers. Keeping our origin as a mass home appliance retailer in mind, we will endeavor to provide various solution services, while deepening and widening our scope of business. In the meantime, as expectations of customers, who have so far supported our growth, diversify increasingly, we came to feel that our philosophy “Creation and Challenges” would not be enough to continue satisfying our customers. Therefore, we added “Appreciation and Trust” to our management philosophy. We will make our utmost efforts in line with this newly added pillar of our management philosophy to make social contribution and further pursue true customer satisfaction. I think that we need to be a strong company so as to make social contribution on an on-going basis, as we can contribute to our customers and society only when we become a strong company and generate earnings.Under our management philosophy, we will continue to restructure management, cultivate new capacity, and develop solutions business to distinguish ourselves from other companies, and will pursue true customer satisfaction. As a leading company in the home appliance industry, Yamada Denki will take on the challenge of creating new markets and proactively promote management focused on the next step forward, thereby endeavoring to enhance sustainable corporate value.
